Flight 587 Memorial

This public plaza serves as both an anchor for the memorial wall designed by artist Freddie Rodriguez, and a compelling neighborhood center for locals and visitors. Complementing the curvilinear design of the Memorial Wall, low concrete walls envelop the plaza, drawing visitors into this site of mourning and solace. On a smaller scale, design details derived from the site’s oceanfront setting, such as textured sand paving, stainless steel site furniture, and salt-hardy plantings, establish the plaza as a place of year-round beauty.

This project was completed by Tricia Martin while at Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects.
