The Highline is a floating ribbon that whispers the many voices that represent the City of New York. It enraptures all that it touches. A line, wrapping itself around, through, above between multiple neighborhoods, tied to past narratives but thrilling as a new urban stage. The Highline is far more than a carpet of green, it is an expression of urban dialogues between the differences and multiplicities that come within its presence. Chelsea artist meets Gas Station attendant as a dialogue between different neighborhoods; nineteenth century warehouse meets slick, new glass facade, a dialogue between old and new; a refuge of shaded trees meets the bustle of outdoor markets, a dialogue between above and below. Wildflowers and grasses meets suits and high heels, a dialogue between "wild succession" and urbanity; and compression between buildings meets expansive views of the river and city skyline, a dialogue between enclosure and exposure. The Highline is the stage where these dialogues unfold. The continuous rhythm of the highline is punctuated by thrilling events that encourage these conversations of many voices to collide. Loops that begin and end with the Highline further increase the chances for encounters resulting in a rich tapestry that is truly sizzling and brilliant.
